Liverpool have initiated an inquiry into the spitting incident that marred Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City, and will liaise with Merseyside Police to identify the culprit.
After a member of Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff was spat upon during the second half, City was incensed and filed a complaint immediately after the game. Officials from the Premier League champions have handed over video footage of the event to the police.
Liverpool is enraged by the unseemly incident and will be willing to ban whoever is found guilty from their stadium for the rest of their lives.
Aside from that, spitting on another person knowingly and directly is a criminal offense for which charges will be filed.
