Man City Fight Back Twice To Draw Thriller At Liverpool

After a moment of brilliance from Mohamed Salah appeared to have secured Liverpool victory in an Anfield thriller, Kevin de Bruyne’s deflected late equalizer earned Manchester City a well-deserved point.

City, the reigning champions, and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool were all expecting to overtake Chelsea at the top of the Premier League standings, but this outcome keeps Thomas Tuchel’s team clear at the top. City dominated the first half but squandered numerous opportunities, and were punished when Sadio Mane took advantage of another Salah brilliance to put Liverpool ahead after 59 minutes.

Liverpool’s lead lasted only 10 minutes before Phil Foden, who had tormented James Milner all game, collected a pass from Gabriel Jesus and struck a low, angled finish past Alisson at the Kop end.

After Milner escaped a second yellow card for brazenly upending Bernardo Silva, City boss Pep Guardiola was understandably enraged, but Anfield erupted in joy after 76 minutes when Salah slalomed past a succession of City players to slam home a spectacular finish.

City deserved at least a point, which they got when De Bruyne’s strike deflected off Joel Matip and beat Alisson with nine minutes remaining. With five minutes remaining, the Reds should have won it, but Rodri’s incredible block saved Fabinho’s goalbound shot out.
