Park Ji-sung, a former Manchester United midfielder, has asked Manchester United fans to refrain from singing a song about him that carries a racist stereotype about his homeland of South Korea.
While at United, Park, 40, stated the song caused him “discomfort.” When Wolves revealed their new Korean forward Hwang Hee-chan against United in August, he made his appeal after hearing away fans sing the song.
“I’m really sorry for him to hear that,” said Park, who retired in 2014.
“I have to educate the fans to stop that word, which is usually these days a racial insult to the Korean people.”
Speaking to the UTD podcast, he added: “Listening to the chant even 10 years later now, I feel sorry for the younger me who tried to overcome this discomfort that I felt back then.
