South Africa overcame New Zealand 31-29 in the Rugby Championship final, with Elton Jantjies scoring a penalty after the final hooter. The Springboks ended a three-match losing slide with goals from Damian de Allende and Makazole Mapimpi.

An Andrew Kellaway hat-trick earlier in the match helped Australia overcome Argentina 32-17 to finish second behind the All Blacks, who won the tournament last weekend. The victory was the Wallabies’ fourth in a row in the competition.

After Sevu Reece, Ardie Savea, and Brad Weber scored first-half tries for New Zealand, South Africa overcame a 20-14 halftime lead on the Gold Coast.

With their victory over South Africa last weekend, the All Blacks clinched the title, but the world champions will now reclaim the top spot in the world rankings.
