Holders Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic, N’Golo Kante, and Reece James will miss Chelsea’s Champions League match against Juventus on Wednesday. While offensive midfielders Pulisic and Mount, as well as right-back James, are sidelined, Kante has Covid-19.
Chelsea suffered their first defeat of the season as they were defeated 1-0 by Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday. After a poor start, Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus are now four games unbeaten and in 10th place in Serie A.
“They are such a big club,” said Blues boss Thomas Tuchel. “Yes they have had some troubles, a rough start but they were very convincing in the Champions League [a 3-0 win at Malmo].
“They are reliable. It is a no-brainer, they demand respect.”
Chelsea won their Group H opener 1-0 against Zenit St Petersburg, and they have only conceded four goals in 14 Champions League games since the start of last season.
“Maybe there is expectation,” added Tuchel. “We came from a role that wasn’t favourites last season and we got better with every match and now we are seen as a real contender.
Due to the absence of former Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata and Paulo Dybala due to injuries, Federico Chiesa is expected to keep his spot.
