Ruthless WSL Champions Chelsea Put 6 Past Man United

Champions Chelsea sent a message to their title rivals by ending Manchester United’s unblemished start to the season with a thrashing.

Within the opening two minutes, Fran Kirby scored her 50th goal in the Women’s Super League. Pernille Harder’s spectacular solo effort extended the Blues’ lead before Sam Kerr added a third.

Alessia Russo’s deflected strike gave United hope, but Chelsea added goals through Kerr, Drew Spence, and Jessie Fleming.

Chelsea expertly negotiated this challenging road assignment with a lethal blend of relentless pressing, exquisite passing, and clinical finishing after being stunned by Arsenal in the season opener.

After starting the season with sweeping wins over Reading and Leicester under new manager Marc Skinner, it was a reminder of the level United must attain in order to challenge Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester City.
