Chelsea target £130m Juventus Defender Matthijs De Ligt After Having A £43m Summer Bid For Jules Kounde Rejected

After failing to sign Jules Kounde during the summer transfer window, Chelsea have moved their attention to Juventus center defender Matthijs De Ligt. Thomas Tuchel’s team has excelled in the early stages of the season, there is still a desire to improve in the back.

The European champions were interested in signing Kounde, but Sevilla turned down their £43 million bid and insisted on his £68 million release clause. Chelsea are considering a move for De Ligt, a Holland international whose £130 million release clause becomes active at the end of the season.

Juventus would prefer De Ligt, 22, to sign a new deal after spending £67.8 million plus add-ons to get him from Ajax in 2019. De Ligt is a costly choice for Chelsea, but his youth is a plus. They are still interested in Kounde, as well as PSG’s Marquinhos and Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule as potential replacements.

Much rests on Antonio Rudiger’s decision to extend his contract at Stamford Bridge. The German’s contract expires at the conclusion of the season, and Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid are all interested in signing him.
