Liverpool beat Norwich City 2-0 at Carrow Road to advance to the Carabao Cup fourth round. Takumi Minamino scored both goals.
Minamino made a quick spin and finish from Divock Origi’s knockdown to give the visitors the lead after four minutes.
Caoimhin Kelleher saved Christos Tzolis’ penalty with his foot to deny Norwich an equaliser before the break.
Five minutes after the break, Origi headed home Konstantinos Tsimikas’ cross, and Minamino added a late third.
Both managers made nine changes from the weekend’s Premier League fixtures, with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp starting teenagers Kaide Gordon and Conor Bradley, as well as Tyler Morton as a sub.
Gordon, a highly touted 16-year-old who joined from Championship club Derby County for an initial £1.1 million in February, showed glimpses of his potential midway through the first half when he blasted barely wide after driving inside from the right.
Norwich improved as the first half progressed, but Adam Idah’s shot was saved by Kelleher, and Tzolis’ penalty attempt after Bradley fouled Dimitris Giannoulis was missed.
After Pierre Lees-Melou squandered a golden opportunity to equalize early in the second half, Liverpool went out of reach, with Minamino’s well-taken second from Alex Oxlade-through Chamberlain’s ball completing a comfortable victory.
