Superb Odegaard Free-Kick Helps Arsenal Beat Burnley For A Second Win Of Season

Posted by

Arsenal won their first away game of the season at Burnley thanks to a free-kick from Martin Odegaard in the first half. After Ashley Westwood had clipped Bukayo Saka on the edge of the area, the Norwegian curled home.

Odegaard scored his first goal for Arsenal after joining on a permanent basis from Real Madrid in a £30 million deal last month.

After assessing Aaron Ramsdale’s challenge on replacement Matej Vydra on the pitchside screen, referee Anthony Taylor overruled his first ruling, denying Burnley a chance to equalize from the penalty spot.

It was the highlight of a spirited second-half display by the hosts, whose manager Sean Dyche was handed a new four-year contract this week and gave Ivory Coast wide-man Maxwel Cornet his first start.

Arsenal’s terrible start to the season has been alleviated by a second consecutive win, while Burnley remain second from bottom with a solitary point from their first five games.
