After losing their appeal against his red card during the defeat to Liverpool, Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk will face a three-match suspension. Struijk was sent off after a challenge on Harvey Elliott that resulted in the midfielder’s ankle being dislocated.
Elliott, who had surgery on Tuesday, could return to the field this season. In a reaction to an Instagram post, the Liverpool player expressed his displeasure with the upholding of the 22-year-punishment, old’s calling the decision “wrong.”
Struijk will miss the Premier League games against Newcastle United and West Ham United, as well as the Carabao Cup match against Fulham. On the 2nd of October, he will be available for the league match at Elland Road against Watford.
Struijk had already apologized to the adolescent on social media for the challenge, claiming he was “gutted” and “never meant for it to happen.”
Elliott responded to a prior Instagram post by saying he had nothing to apologize for and called the incident a “freak accident.”
