Despite the Government dropping plans to introduce Covid passports for large events, the Premier League will advise supporters not to attend matches unless they have been completely vaccinated or can give documentation of a recent negative Covid test for the rest of the season.
At games, clubs will continue to use Covid marshals to conduct spot checks on supporters’ Covid certification, and those who do not have the requisite credentials may be denied entry.
Some clubs are said to have already evicted fans who couldn’t prove their Covid status in the first few weeks of the season.
The Premier League has been working with teams to ensure they are ready to implement a vaccine passport system in October, but despite Health Secretary Sajid Javid ruling out mandatory certification on Sunday, the top division has decided to ignore the Government’s advice.
