This week begins the group stage of what looks to be an exciting Champions League season.
Holders Chelsea, along with last season’s runners-up Manchester City, Liverpool, and Manchester United, are part of an English four in contention.
Intriguingly, the latter will be led by Cristiano Ronaldo, the competition’s all-time leading scorer.
For the first time in the tournament, Lionel Messi will play for a team other than Barcelona.
Following a summer in which they recruited a number of seasoned Champions League warriors, his new team Paris St-Germain will start as one of the favorites.
But who else will be vying for the title in May in St. Petersburg? What other players should you keep an eye on? Is there a chance we’ll see another English winner this season? BBC Sport aims to answer these questions.
