After a video leaked on social media of a spectator allegedly shouting ‘abusive language of a sectarian kind’ towards Aston Villa’s John McGinn, Chelsea have promised to take the’strongest possible action.’
During the Blues’ 3-0 Premier League triumph at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, abuse appeared to be directed at Scotland midfielder McGinn, prompting the club to begin an investigation.
The London club has asked for assistance in identifying the accused perpetrator from Saturday’s match, and Villa has expressed gratitude to the west Londoners for initiating the probe.
McGinn moved over to take a corner next to a section of Chelsea supporters during the first half of the match at Stamford Bridge, where the alleged sectarian slur was allegedly hurled.
