Man City Join The Race To Sign Declan Rice As Fernandinho’s Replacement

Manchester City has reportedly joined Premier League championship rival Manchester United in the race to recruit West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, who is valued at £100 million.

The 22-year-old shone at Euro 2020, helping England reach the final, and has captained the Hammers on several occasions, with David Moyes’ side currently sitting sixth after a strong start to the season.

Pep Guardiola is expected to add the former Chelsea academy product to his team next summer as a replacement for 36-year-old Fernandinho, who is in the final year of his contract and is unlikely to sign a new term, according to The Sun.

Rice is claimed to have been monitored by City since he broke into West Ham’s first squad at the age of 18 and has been high on their list of transfer targets, despite the fact that he recently turned down two new contract offers from the Irons.

Given that time is on Rice’s side, it is also unlikely that a nine-figure sum would be a barrier to City. The Englishman’s current deal expires in 2024, and West Ham are under no urgent pressure to sell him.
