After admitting to stealing £15,000 from his elderly grandfather, the brother of former Liverpool and Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam faces jail time. Grant Adam, 30, a former Rangers and Scotland Under 21s professional player, embezzled thousands of pounds from Charles Adam while he held Power of Attorney over his money.

Adam, who now plays football for Lochee United in Scotland’s sixth division, admitted to the crime on Monday and risks a prison sentence when his sentence is determined next month. From October 2019 to January 2020, the goalkeeper was in control of his grandfather’s affairs, and he has acknowledged to taking money from the 78-year-Post old’s Office account.

He was originally accused with embezzling monies totaling £22,000, but his lawyer, Jim Laverty, entered a guilty plea for a lesser amount of £15,000. Adam accepted that as the Power of Attorney for his elderly relative, he ‘failed to act in line with the duties and powers placed on him.’ He was not present before Dundee Sheriff Court on Monday.

Adam was a great footballer who even won the Scottish League Cup while with St Mirren in 2012-13, despite having plummeted down the leagues.
