After being faced to racist shouting by Hungary fans on Thursday night, Jude Bellingham has asked for ‘appropriate penalties.’
While Bellingham went to warm up on the sidelines in Budapest, fans shouted monkey noises, and Sterling, who scored England’s first goal in the 4-0 victory, was also a target of the taunts. FIFA confirmed on Friday that disciplinary proceedings had been initiated in connection with the events.
A statement from the organisation read: ‘Following analysis of the match reports, FIFA has opened disciplinary proceedings concerning the incidents last night at the game Hungary-England.
‘Once again, FIFA would like to state that our position remains firm and resolute in rejecting any form of racism and violence as well as any other form of discrimination or abuse. We have a very clear zero tolerance stance against such abhorrent behaviours in football.’
