Angel Di Maria has taken another swipe at Manchester United, alleging that he ‘didn’t give a f***’ about being granted the club’s legendary No 7 shirt.
In August 2014, the Argentine joined United from Real Madrid for a then-club-record £59.7 million fee, but he had a catastrophic year at Old Trafford. Di Maria resented the club during his time there, and now he’s made the astounding assertion that the club’s No 7 shirt meant nothing to him, despite the club’s lengthy and illustrious history.
Di Maria was awarded the No 7 shirt upon his debut, which had previously been worn by David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, and George Best – but it was the No 11 shirt that he actually desired and never received.
‘I didn’t give a f*** about the Manchester United No 7, at first they talked to me a lot about it… it was just a shirt,’ he told Libero.
Di Maria also blamed his shortcomings on then-United boss Louis van Gaal, claiming the Dutchman was the worst manager he ever had.
‘My problem at Manchester was the coach,’ Di Maria added.
