The Swiss Football Association acknowledged that Granit Xhaka turned down the possibility to get vaccinated against Covid-19 after the midfielder tested positive.
The Arsenal midfielder, who just signed a new three-year, £100,000-per-week contract to continue at the Premier League club, is captain of his country and was kept out of Wednesday’s match against Greece as he isolates.
Xhaka tested negative at first, but when a follow-up PCR resulted in a positive result, it raised questions about whether the 28-year-old had chosen to be vaccinated.
According to Blick, the Swiss FA’s head of communications, Adrian Arnold, acknowledged the player’s refusal of immunization.
