Sorry Arsenal, You Haven’t Got Much For Your £150m… None Of The Gunners’ Six Major Signings Are The Finished Product – Chris Sutton

So, Arsenal fans, how do you feel about that window? What would your rating be on a scale of one to ten, with one being as if you’d signed 48-year-old me as a striker for the coming season and ten being as if you’d signed Cristiano Ronaldo?

I wouldn’t blame you for being disappointed. You’ve risen to the top of England’s spenders. It comes to just over £150 million for me. Ben White (£50 million), Martin Odegaard (£31.5 million), Aaron Ramsdale (£25 million), Albert Sambi Lokonga (£15 million), Nuno Tavares (£7 million), and Takehiro Tomiyasu (£19.8 million) are among the candidates.

Don’t get me wrong: they’re all good players. Tomiyasu, who came in on the last day of the deadline, is a good addition. He’s only 22 years old and can play center back, right back, or right wing back, giving you a variety of choices. However, that list of names lacks punch — that sense that this is a game-changer. None of these are the completed work. Not even White, who is a huge investment at £50 million.

How do you attract the best of the best when you finished eighth in the Premier League last season and are currently bottom? That’s part of the problem with Arsenal.

That is not an option for players like Ronaldo. They want clubs who have a track record of being competitive, which Arsenal has recently lacked.
