Arsenal has confirmed that Willian’s contract has been amicably ended following a terrible year in north London. Last summer, the Brazilian signed a free transfer with Mikel Arteta’s team, but he struggled in 2020-21, scoring only once in 37 appearances.

Willian has been a target for Arsenal this summer, and Corinthians have expressed interest in ending his nightmare with the Gunners.
However, his earnings at the Emirates Stadium, which are thought to be in the region of £220,000 per week, had proven to be a major stumbling block in discussions.

After reaching an agreement to cancel the remaining two years of his contract, the former Chelsea star is expected to return to his native Brazil, saving the club roughly £20 million in salaries. ‘We have achieved a mutual agreement with Willian to terminate his contract effective today,’ Arsenal announced in a statement.

‘We signed the Brazil international from Chelsea in August, and he made 38 appearances in the 2020/21 season.
