Cristiano Ronaldo has agreed to take a wage cut to rejoin Manchester United after leaving Juventus. In order to achieve a quick exit from Turin before Tuesday’s transfer deadline, Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes set the Ballon d’Or winner’s wage demands at £20 million per year, or £385,000 per week. In Italy, the 36-year-old attacker was paid £500,000 per week.
Despite the fact that Ronaldo surpasses David de Gea as United’s highest-paid player, a source close to the deal said: ‘He is on less than he was at Juventus.’ Mendes had enquired about Ronaldo’s availability and terms with a number of Premier League clubs, with City feeling they were serious contenders at one point.
United made a decisive move after they realized the player would be released by Juventus for slightly under £20 million. Despite announcing on Friday that they had reached an agreement, United had yet to receive official confirmation of Ronaldo’s signing.
Ronaldo’s medical is set to take place in Lisbon, and he might make his second debut against Newcastle on September 11.
