Juventus’ first game without Cristiano Ronaldo ended in a 1-0 defeat at home to newly promoted Empoli. Juve were defeated by Leonardo Mancuso in the first half, just a day after Ronaldo agreed to rejoin his former team Manchester United.

Massimiliano Allegri, Juventus coach, stated that his players cannot think about the departing Portugal forward and that they must work together to turn things around. Juve were flat in their first home match of the season, losing without creating any clear chances against promoted Empoli.

‘Cristiano spent three years at Juventus, scoring goals, which he excels at, and he’s a fantastic player, but we can no longer worry about Ronaldo,’ Allegri told DAZN.

‘I have a fine squad, we simply must realise that we can’t just dominate every match. We need to come together and this will help us for the future.’

Juve also dropped points in a 2-2 draw at Udinese after leading 2-0, with replacement Ronaldo’s stoppage-time winner being disallowed by VAR in his final appearance for the club.
