Pep Guardiola has stated that when his contract with Manchester City expires in 2023, he intends to lead a national team.

After seven years at the helm of the Premier League team, the 50-year-old intends to “take a sabbatical.” “I believe I will come to a halt. I’ll have to take a pause and see what we’ve accomplished “Guardiola remarked. “If there is a chance, the next step will be a national team.”

“I would like to train a South American (team), European, participating in a Copa America, I want to have that experience,” he said during an online event held by Brazilian financial services business XP Investimentos, as quoted by ESPN Brasil.

City will be disappointed by the news, which comes on the same day as their ambitions of signing Tottenham striker Harry Kane were snuffed out, with the England captain declaring his decision to stay put this summer.

Guardiola took a 12-month gap from managing after leaving Barcelona in 2012 to join Bayern Munich, where he won three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and four consecutive League Cups.
