Villa Hammer Barrow In Carabao Cup With Hat-Trick For Teenager Archer

Cameron Archer scored a hat-trick as Aston Villa cruised into the Carabao Cup third round with a comfortable victory against League Two Barrow. Before Frederic Guilbert crashed in a fifth, Archer dinked in a superb finish for his second. Late in the game, the 19-year-old completed his hat-trick with a superb low strike.

He was one of ten changes made by manager Dean Smith from Saturday’s 2-0 win against Newcastle, and Archer will be hoping that his goals have earned him a place in the Premier League squad against Brentford this weekend.

Barrow competed well throughout, but were forced to play catch-up after El Ghazi went in behind and squared for Archer to score from six yards out in the 10th minute. El Ghazi, the only player on exhibit to start against the Magpies, dispatched a Panenka penalty after fellow youngster Jaden Philogene-Bidace was hauled down in the area.

When the dynamic Offrande Zanzala was hauled down in the area by Kortney Hause, the Bluebirds should have had a penalty, but Villa ended the game as a contest just before the halftime when El Ghazi volleyed in Guilbert’s long ball.
