According to rumors, Manchester United is in pole position to recruit Borussia Dortmund attacker Erling Haaland when his £64 million release clause expires next summer. According to Sportsmail in March, the Norwegian striker scored 41 goals in 41 games for the German club last summer and was desired by Chelsea, Manchester City, and Real Madrid early this year.
Chelsea reportedly made a cash-plus-player offer for Haaland, which Dortmund reportedly turned down because it fell short of their £150 million estimate for the player.
According to BILD, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are the frontrunners for Haaland when his release clause, which can be activated by the player’s agent Mino Raiola, kicks in.
Raiola represents numerous United players, including Paul Pogba, who is a client of the Italian super-agent, as well as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, both of whom have recently completed Old Trafford deals. Mkhitaryan is one of three Dortmund players who have moved to Old Trafford in recent years, with Shinji Kagawa and new £73 million signing Jadon Sancho flanking him.
