On his birthday, Judd Trump lost in the third round of the British Open, relinquishing his world number one status. Trump, who turned 32 on Friday, was defeated 3-2 by Elliot Slessor, and because he did not advance to the quarter-finals, Mark Selby has taken over as the number one seed.

Ali Carter, who beat Selby 3-0 in the second round in Leicester, will face Slessor in the last 16. Carter made his second 147 break of the tournament, although he was defeated by Slessor later that day. After being knocked out, Trump criticized the quality of the tables at the Morningside Arena.

“It was a scrappy game. I couldn’t really get any rhythm going and it was tough in the end,” he said.
“I said it from the first game I struggled with the table. I thought it was very heavy from the start.
“I’ve watched a lot of the games and they’ve been very scrappy.

In the quarter-finals, Slessor will face Zhou Yuelong, while Lu Ning will face Jimmy Robertson, Mark Williams will face Ricky Walden, and David Gilbert will face Gary Wilson.
