As he prepares to return to Chelsea, Romelu Lukaku feels he has grown as a player. Lukaku, 28, was at the club for three years, from 2011 to 2014, before moving on to Everton, Manchester United, and Inter Milan.
Last Monday, the Blues re-signed him from Inter for a club-record £97.5 million. “Maturity has played a significant role. I believe I’ve learned a lot more about myself and have set bigger goals for myself “At his unveiling, Lukaku remarked. After completing a full pre-season with the Italian champions, the Belgium international declared he is fit to play Arsenal on Sunday.
He added: “As a player, it’s about becoming more complete. In Italy, the game is different, there are tighter spaces, it’s more technical and tactical, which helped me a lot.
“I’ve done a full pre-season. For now, I just want to get to know my team-mates better. “Then, at the end of the day, I’m available for the manager if he wants to play me.”
Lukaku thinks he is ready to fit into whatever system Thomas Tuchel has in mind after taking up the number nine shirt at Stamford Bridge following Tammy Abraham’s departure for Roma. “The English game is unique, yet it is nothing new to me.” Whatever the coach’s plan is, I can adjust and assist the team.
