‘Teams Will Look To Play Long Balls On Ben White’s Head After £50m Man’s Struggles At Brentford’, Jamie Carragher

After Arsenal’s opening-day defeat to Brentford, Jamie Carragher believes clubs will attempt to exploit Ben White. In a poor Premier League start for Arsenal’s £50 million purchase, Sergi Canos and Christian Norgaard scored to give the Bees a surprising victory.

White might not get the chance to step in with the ball as much as he did while playing in a back three at Brighton, according to Sky Sports commentator Jamie Carragher. He also admitted that he didn’t want White to join Liverpool because he isn’t ‘tall enough’ or ‘excellent enough in the air.’

‘I spoke to Ben White in the interview before the game and mentioned how many opportunities he’ll get to step in with the ball, and I mentioned in commentary in the first half because Callum Chambers wasn’t going forward and was at times in the right-sided centre-back position,’ he said after the game.

‘As a result, Ben White will have fewer opportunities to go in with the ball and demonstrate the quality that we all associate with him.
