Because the transaction isn’t “100% done yet,” Raphael Varane will miss Manchester United’s Premier League opener against Leeds on Saturday. On July 27, United and Real Madrid signed an agreement for Varane. The France defender, 28, arrived in Manchester on Friday, but due to quarantine restrictions, he missed the league’s deadline to register for the weekend.
“Things happen and things take time. It’ll be done soon,” said United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
“Unfortunately with the isolation that delayed these things.”
Coronavirus travel laws in the United Kingdom demand travellers arriving from specified countries to spend time in isolation. The transfer, according to Solskjaer, will still be completed.
He said: “It’s not 100% done yet. He’s not trained with us and we haven’t put all the dots over the i’s and crossed the t’s yet.”
