Chelsea’s unlikely hero, Kepa Arrizabalaga, overturned their UEFA Super Cup hoodoo by lifting the trophy in Belfast after a nail-biting match against Villarreal.
The Blues had been beaten three times in this competition, and their fate at Windsor Park was to be decided by a penalty shootout when neither team could be separated after 120 minutes.
Arrizabalaga, who came on as a late substitution for Edouard Mendy in the 119th minute, saved two spot penalties to throw the travelling Chelsea fans into a frenzy as they finally got their hands on another trophy.
The fact that Mendy was one of the first players to congratulate Kepa underlines how Tuchel has instilled in his European champions a team-first mentality.
Tuchel will undoubtedly make more risky decisions in the future. His players will have no reservations in supporting their manager’s risky decisions – after all, he has plenty of cash on hand.
