Joe Willock has been sold to Arsenal for a sum of £22 million. After a fantastic loan stay in the second part of last season, during which he scored in seven consecutive Premier League games, the midfielder has been extensively connected with a return to St James’ Park.
Willock returned to Arsenal for pre-season, but his long affiliation with the club is coming to an end.
Willock was left out of Arsenal’s pre-season friendly against Tottenham on Sunday, and Newcastle have yet to finalise personal terms with him.
When asked about Willock’s exclusion after the game, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta responded, “We will explain the reasons when we can.”
