Leo Messi began to cry before even starting his farewell address at the Nou Camp on Sunday, but beneath the tears was a terrifying message to Barcelona fans: I want to win a lot more titles, and I’ll most likely do so at your biggest European rivals, Paris Saint-Germain.
When asked if he plans to say his goodbyes to Barcelona and say hello to his new club right away, Messi said: ‘The deal isn’t finalized, but PSG is a serious possibility, and we’re talking.’ Messi has 35 trophies to his name at Barcelona, second only to Dani Alves, but he is far from finished, saying: ‘My goal is to keep winning, win a Champions League, and catch Dani Alves.’
Many issues remained unanswered after the dramatic farewell appearance in front of former teammates Xavi Hernandez and Carles Puyol, as well as the current group and coach Ronald Koeman.
With three weeks left in the transfer window and Messi’s father flying into Barcelona on Wednesday under the belief his son would sign a new contract, it’s still unclear why the club stated on Thursday that they were abandoning up on keeping him.
