‘We’ll Miss You’, Barca Captain Busquets Bids Messi Farewell

As he thanked Lionel Messi for everything he’d done for Barcelona on Friday, captain Sergio Busquets admitted the shock of the Argentine’s departure had yet to sink in.

Messi, the six-time Ballon d’Or winner, was expected to sign a new five-year contract with Barcelona on Thursday, but instead will leave the club after 788 games at the age of 34.

Busquets stated on social media, “I’m still trying to accept the news.”

Busquets, who played with Messi in midfield, said, “I can only thank you for everything you achieved for the club and for those of us who were there with you throughout the years, especially myself.”

“I shared so many memories with you, almost all of them positive, and I was fortunate to grow up with you for 13 seasons.”
