Britain’s Sprinters In Agony As They Narrowly Lose Out On Gold In The Men’s 4x100m Relay Final By 0.01 Seconds

The men’s 4×100 relay team from Team GB almost missed out on a gold medal by 0.01 seconds in Tokyo, as Italy surged from behind to overtake them on the line, breaking British hearts once more after the Euro 2020 final.

The British quartet believed they had the gold when CJ Ujah, Zharnel Hughes, and Richard Kilty placed them in front at the last changeover, but Italy’s Filippo Tortu overtook Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake on the line.

After defeating Gareth Southgate’s England side on penalties in last month’s European Championships final at Wembley, Italy gets one over on a British sporting team once more in the relay.

Italy’s victory in the men’s 4x100m Olympic relay caps up a fantastic summer of cultural triumphs that included victories in the men’s 100m Olympic final, the Euro 2020 final versus England, and the Eurovision song contest.
