Following the stunning departure of Danny Ings to Aston Villa, Southampton is said to have approached Chelsea about signing striker Tammy Abraham.
Ings, who joined Southampton from Liverpool in 2018 and scored 46 goals in 100 games, sealed a stunning £30 million move to Villa Park on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old was in the penultimate year of his contract when he declined a new deal that would have made him the club’s highest-paid player.
According to talkSPORT, manager Ralph Hasenhuttl swiftly came out to insist that they can replace the forward, and Abraham appears to be at the top of his want list.
‘Southampton inquiry about Tammy Abraham’s availability,’ they tweeted on Thursday morning. No’The Saints seek a loan arrangement, but Chelsea is looking for a long-term solution.’
The Blues are trying to sell in order to complete a high-profile deal for Romelu Lukaku.
