After losing his super-heavyweight semi-final to Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov, Frazer Clarke will take bronze.
The 29-year-old from Burton-on-Trent bravely entered the ring against the heavy favorite and landed a massive right hand in the second round – practically the first glove landed on the 27-year-old during the Games so far.
He needed treatment for a cut over his right eye at the start of the third and returned to the action in desperate need of a miracle. However, another shot from Jalolov, which he had previously opened during his quarter-final victory, reopened the wound, and the match was called off.
Despite the agonizing semi-final conclusion, Clarke stated that he was ‘proud’ of his Olympic experience, which culminated with bronze. Clarke told the BBC, ‘It’s not the fairytale I wanted, but I’m proud of myself.’ ‘I’m disappointed I didn’t achieve a little more, but I’m an Olympic bronze medalist.’
