Jodie Williams of the United Kingdom has gone to the semi-finals of the women’s 400 meters in Tokyo after winning her heat on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old approaches the Olympics in high spirits, having won bronze at the European Indoor Championships earlier this year, and finished ahead of Quanera Hayes with a timing of 50.99 seconds. Nicole Yeargin, a Team GB star, was with her and finished third in her heat.

The Scot, though, was banned for two separate lane violations, a significant disappointment for the 23-year-old. She still has the option to appeal the decision.

Meanwhile, Ama Pipi, who finished fourth, awaited the results to see if she was the best of the rest. After the fourth and final heat, the 25-year-destiny old’s was sealed, and her time was good enough to proceed. For Williams, the added pressure of competing in an Olympic Games brings out the best in her performances.
