Rangers began their first Scottish Premiership championship defence in ten years with victory thanks to Scott Wright’s spectacular finish.
Steven Gerrard’s side, who went undefeated in the league with a perfect home record last season, took an early lead when Ianis Hagi smashed a high shot into the net. However, their threat was neutralized until Wright curled a shot into the far corner with the outside of his boot, and fellow replacement Kemar Roofe scored a late third.
Ayo Obileye dreadfully miscued a clear header in the first half as Livingston failed to put a shot on goal. Gerrard’s team has certainly got more to offer, while Livingston’s new additions have had a bruising start to life in the Premier League.
The visitors deserve credit for controlling the game after a poor start, but were ultimately outclassed by Rangers’ greater skill.
Rangers will play Malmo in a first-leg qualifier in the Champions League on Tuesday (18:00 BST), while Livingston will visit Aberdeen in the Premiership on Sunday (15:00).
