After being told that he played alongside Lionel Messi at Barcelona, Samuel Eto’o became enraged and screamed at a reporter, arguing that he did. From 2004 to 2009, Eto’o was Barcelona’s No. 9 and was present at the Nou Camp when a young Messi made his debut as a sprightly 16-year-old.
The Cameroonian scored 130 goals in 199 games for the Catalans during a period when he was at the top of his game, and Messi surely learned a lot from his teammate.
By the time he departed LaLiga, though, it was evident that Messi was the star of the squad, which was then coached by Pep Guardiola. Eto’o has long said that Messi is the greatest footballer of all time, but when a journalist claimed that he played alongside Messi at Barcelona, the 40-year-old felt compelled to correct the record.
‘You bring up Messi; what can he [Ansu Fati] learn from him? The reporter inquired, “You definitely played with him…”
