In addition to their pursuit of Raphael Varane, Manchester United is planning a move for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde. United are pursuing a move for Real Madrid’s Varane, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also interested in signing Varane’s French international teammate Kounde.
Solskjaer has made defensive reinforcements a primary priority for him this summer, and Kounde has been on United’s radar for a while.
Since joining Sevilla from Bordeaux in 2019, Kounde has established himself as one of Europe’s best young defenders. He was a member of France’s squad at this summer’s Euros. Several clubs have expressed interest in Kounde, including Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Real Madrid, but United are willing to offer him a move to Old Trafford.
Kounde’s potential and versatility, which includes the ability to play at right-back, meet the criteria for the type of young player Solskjaer is trying to add to United’s team. Sevilla do not want to lose Kounde, who has a contract until 2024, but they are expecting offers for the 22-year-old before the transfer window closes.
