Toby Alderweireld is set to join Qatari side Al-Duhail for £13 million, according to reports. After joining the club from Atletico Madrid in 2015, the 32-year-old centre-back has spent six seasons with the club.
As new manager Nuno Espirito Santo aims to restructure the team’s defense, Spurs are attempting to clinch a move for Atalanta defender Cristian Romero. According to the Telegraph, Alderweireld is close to joining the Qatar-based team, but the deal is contingent on the player agreeing to personal terms and going to the Middle East for a medical.
Alderweireld’s current Tottenham contract expires in a year, and he wants out, despite Tottenham’s desire not to lose him for free next year.
Belgian team A bid from Royal Antwerp to bring the Belgian centre-back back to his birthplace, where he played before joining Ajax’s junior system, was rejected earlier this summer.
