After an enthusiastic 24 hours, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrived to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, but he had little to cheer about as his temporary side suffered an embarrassing friendly defeat.
On Friday, Solskjaer finally finalized the £73 million signing of Jadon Sancho, before announcing on Saturday morning that the manager had given him a new contract that could keep him at Old Trafford until 2025.
Nemanja Matic, Mason Greenwood, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jesse Lingard, and Dan James were the senior names in the starting line-up, with the rest of Solskjaer’s leading players, including Pogba, waiting to report back for pre-season. Lingard reminded Solskjaer why he wants the midfielder to continue at the club with a third-minute opening, calmly scoring after being set up by a combination of Greenwood and Facundo Pellistri.
Rangers leveled seven minutes later with Charlie Austin, and the home side pushed ahead as Solskjaer made substitutions and brought on the youngsters. In the 52nd minute, Lyndon Dykes put Mark Warburton’s side ahead, and six minutes later, right wing-back Moses Odubajo scored from long range.
