Karim Benzema, a famous striker for Real Madrid, has tested positive for Covid-19.
Los Blancos issued a statement on Friday morning stating that the French international, who had just recently returned to the squad following his end-of-season sabbatical, had tested positive.
Since France’s unexpected elimination in the last-16 of Euro 2020 on June 28, the 33-year-old had been resting. On Thursday, Benzema and international teammate Raphael Varane returned to duties for Real Madrid at their Valdebebas ground.
Because of his positive test, he will miss a significant portion of Madrid’s pre-season preparations for the new season.
The team will travel to Scotland ahead of their Sunday evening match against Steven Gerrard’s Rangers. Benzema, on the other hand, will be unable to fly to Scotland to face the Scottish Premiership winners and will instead take a long vacation from training to isolate himself from the rest of the squad.
