Leo Messi Accept To Stay At Barcelona At Reduced Wages

Lionel Messi has decided to stay at Barcelona until 2026, with his salaries reduced to half of what they were previously. The news is contingent on player departures, which will allow Barcelona to pay the Argentina captain’s salary. After his contract, which reportedly paid him £123 million per season, terminated on June 30, Messi, 34, became a free agent.

He’s on vacation after winning the Copa America, and the contract’s finer points have still to be worked out. Messi’s re-signing was the main goal of new chairman Joan Laporta this summer. Barcelona is reportedly considering a swap deal involving Antoine Griezmann and Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez in order to cut costs.

Messi had been linked with moves to Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, where he would be reunited with his former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola, as well as Major League Soccer in the United States, which he had previously contemplated.

Messi is Barcelona’s all-time leading scorer with 672 goals and has won 10 La Liga crowns, four Champions Leagues, seven Copa del Reys, and a record six Ballon d’Ors.
