Despite his ‘great potential,’ Bruno Fernandes has not represented Portugal at Euro 2020, according to compatriot Jose Mourinho.
In their initial Group F triumph over Hungary and subsequent 4-2 defeat by Germany, the Manchester United star managed just 58 passes in total and has only one shot on goal.
Fernandes has not played a key role in any of the defending champions’ five goals thus far in the competition, and he was also replaced after 63 minutes against Joachim Low’s side. His dismal performances are surprising given that he came into the tournament having scored 28 goals and assisting 17 times for his team in all competitions in 2020-21.
Mourinho, the former United manager, claims that Fernandes ‘wasn’t there’ in Portugal’s first two games and was simply occupying space on the pitch, but believes he will make up for it against world champions France in their final group game.
