England completed their first Euro 2020 assignment by defeating the Czech Republic to win Group D and go undefeated in three games without surrendering a goal.
It means they’ll play their last-16 match at Wembley, where they might face World Cup holders France, old rivals Germany, or current European champions Portugal.
For the time being, football in England is staying at home; whether it stays there forever is another question. If England is to do so, manager Gareth Southgate will need to elicit a different response from his players than the occasionally stodgy cuisine provided during the group stage.
