The Netherlands beat North Macedonia 2-0 thanks to goals from Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum, making it three wins in a row at Euro 2020. After defeating Ukraine and Austria, Frank de Boer’s side had already earned first place in Group C with a game to spare.
The Dutch scored first thanks to a stunning counter-attack that began with a Daley Blind challenge on the edge of his own box and ended with a first-time Memphis Depay strike from Donyell Malen’s cross. Depay has nine goals and three assists in his last ten outings for the Netherlands, having played his first game since his move to Barcelona was revealed.
Wijnaldum wrapped up the game in the second half with two goals in seven minutes, the first from Depay’s well-placed cross, before Stole Dimitrievski’s save from Depay dropped well for another close-range finish from the Dutch captain.
On June 27, the Dutch will travel to Budapest for their last-16 clash against the third-placed finisher from Group D, E, or F.
