Despite Harry Maguire’s return to full training, Gareth Southgate is almost certain to leave him out of Sunday’s Euro 2020 match against Croatia.
The Manchester United captain is certain to miss the first game as well as the match against Scotland on Friday.
Maguire expects to play in the last group game against the Czech Republic in 11 days, most likely as a substitute.
By practicing on Thursday, the central defender, who hasn’t played since May 9, made a huge step forward in his recuperation from an ankle ligament injury. He is not in contention to face Croatia unless something unforeseen happens, and there are reservations about forcing him back into a potentially punishing contest against Scotland.
