Barcelona thrashed Athletic Bilbao and won the Copa del Rey with four goals in 12 minutes, including a brilliant strike from Lionel Messi.
Barca were frustrated before Antoine Griezmann turned in Frenkie de Jong’s cross in the 60th minute, before De Jong headed in himself three minutes later.

Messi then powered from within his own half, exchanging passes twice with De Jong before finding the bottom corner for Barcelona’s third goal. Messi scored his second four minutes later, sweeping in a cross from Jordi Alba. The win is Barca’s first trophy under manager Ronald Koeman, and their first silverware since the start of the season.

“It’s critical for me to win a championship,” said Koeman, whose team is currently third in La Liga, two points behind leaders Atletico Madrid. “Despite the changes at the club and the influx of young talent, you must still compete for trophies at Barca.”

Athletic suffered their second Copa del Rey final loss in as many weeks, having lost to Real Sociedad in the postponed 2020 final on April 3rd.
