Harry Kane Grooms England To Victory Over Albania
With a comfortable victory over Albania in Tirana, England maintained their unbeaten start to the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Albania posed a greater threat than hapless San Marino in England’s 5-0 victory at Wembley, but after overcoming an early scare when Myrto Uzuni missed a great chance for the world’s 66th-ranked side, this was routine for Gareth Southgate’s side.
The mediocrity of an attritional first half on a slow field was lifted when England captain Harry Kane scored his 33rd goal for his country, a superbly powered diving header from Luke Shaw’s cross seven minutes before the break.
Mason Mount added a balanced second in the 63rd minute after sustained England pressure saw Phil Foden’s effort turned on to the post by Albanian keeper Etrit Berisha and Kane lifting a close-range shot over the top.
